The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef FagbamiSAN, is leading the prosecution team in the trial of nine people charged on Monday for their alleged involvement in the massacre of about 150 people in Yelwata, a town in Benue State.

The accused, accused of killing over 150 people in Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of ​​Benue State on June 13, 2025, were arraigned by the Federal Government before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The prosecution of the suspects in the Benue murders came after a thorough investigation and collaboration of government agencies.

The accused were arraigned on an amended 57-count charge close to the murders in Yelwata, Benue State, in June last year.

The accused, Ado Mohammed Dono, Mohammed Saidu, Alh Haruna Abdullahi, Yakubu Adamu, Mohammed Musa, Abubakar Adamu, Shaibu Ibrahim, Saleh Mohammed and Bako Jibril have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them by the federal government.

In a statement earlier on Sunday, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had assured Nigerians that justice will be ensured in the matter to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country, who act under any guise.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to protecting the lives and property of all as mandated by the Constitution,” the AGF said in the statement.
