Kano State Police Domain has announced a partnership with the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) and the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMGF) to combat hate speech and fake news across the state through a sensitization workshop.
The initiative is being organized under the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained community participation.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the one-day workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Aminu Dantata Auditorium, Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Gadon Kaya, Kano.

The workshop is designed to raise awareness among key stakeholders, including political actors, journalists, social media influencers, online media editors and police officers, about the dangers of hate speech and fake news, and how to address its growing spread.
The command said the program is a response to the recent rise in inciting speeches and statements capable of undermining peace and stability in the state, which are often circulated through various media platforms.
Specialists from the media, the legal profession and the police are expected to facilitate the sessions.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged all invited participants to attend and actively contribute to the discussions aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and public safety.
The police command also appealed to residents to avoid spreading unverified information and inflammatory content and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
