The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said it was fully prepared for the 2027 elections, as evidenced by meeting the deadlines set for the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said the party structures in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were ready for the elections.
The National President, Honorable Abdulrahman Mohammed, spoke on the preparation of the PDP during a meeting with a delegation of the International Republican Institute Pre-Election Assessment Mission to Nigeria from the United States of America (USA).
Receiving the delegation at the National Secretariat at Wadada Plaza in Abuja, Mohammed assured them that as a party belonging to the “people of Nigeria”, he had taken time to mobilize for the elections and do everything possible to support free and fair elections.
He cited an example of the recent Osun State gubernatorial election, noting that the result also demonstrated that Nigerians embraced democratic principles.
Mohammed spoke further: “You are here again in Nigeria. You were in Osun for the gubernatorial election that took place two days ago, and you can attest to the outcome of the election, because the people of Osun turned out in droves to make sure they elect the person they want to be the governor of the state.
“We are the Peoples Democratic Party and we belong to the people of Nigeria, and our desire and aspiration is to give accountability to the electorate. That is why more than 20 years ago, the party remained democratic and is present in all 36 states and the FCT and in all 774 local governments in Nigeria.
“I want to assure you that the PDP is fully ready for the elections.”
IRI African Regional Director Jenai Cox, who led the delegation, told PDP that the mission was to engage stakeholders across the board to determine the level of preparations for the general elections.
“Our pre-election assessment mission delegation is here to learn more from a variety of stakeholders about the pre-election period and preparations before the general elections,” he said.

“So our team here is assessing that situation, assessing how preparations are going, what the parties are doing as well, what we should be looking for as we get closer to January and listening to a variety of views from interested parties.”
According to Cox, the mission will make recommendations after discussions with various groups about their observations and how to improve preparations.
He explained: “The mission will have the opportunity to share recommendations towards the end of the week with interested parties, where we will have a preliminary statement available.
“So, thank you very much again for inviting us and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the political environment ahead of the election and how you are preparing to participate in the campaign ahead.”
