GitHub, one of the world’s largest code hosting platforms, suffered a major outage on Monday, affecting developers, companies, and software teams around the world.
The outage began around 1:40 pm UTC on Monday, with GitHub reporting degraded performance across several of its services.
Among the affected features are Pull Requests, Issues, Actions, Webhooks, and GitHub Copilot, while some users have also experienced issues with the platform’s application programming interface (API).
The GitHub status page showed high error rates impacting web experiences and API traffic, while downloads of repository files and raw content also experienced significant failures.

The outage is also impacting some enterprise services, including authentication and user management features used by organizations operating on GitHub Enterprise Cloud.
The outage has caused problems for developers trying to merge code, run automated tests and deployments through GitHub Actions, track issues, or use webhooks to activate other services.
Independent outage monitoring platform Downdetector also saw a sharp increase in reports of users experiencing issues with GitHub.
GitHub said its engineering teams were investigating the incident and carrying out mitigation measures while monitoring the platform for improvements. The company had not immediately disclosed the cause of the outage or provided a definitive timeline for full restoration.
The incident highlights the growing reliance of software developers and businesses on GitHub to store code, manage projects, and automate software development processes.
Users affected by the outage have been advised to monitor GitHub’s official status page for further updates as engineers work to restore normal service.
