The INDEPENDENT Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) says it has commenced monitoring of over N1 billion worth of federal government funded projects in Osun.

The head of the agency’s monitoring team, Mrs Mary Oke, disclosed this on Wednesday in Osogbo. He said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that government-funded projects provide value for money and are executed according to specifications.

Oke said the monitoring exercise would cover the three senatorial districts of the state: Osun Central, Osun East and Osun West.

According to her, the projects being pursued include road construction, solar-powered street lighting, skill acquisition and empowerment programmes.

He added that the commission would also monitor grants given to vulnerable people, widows, people with disabilities and the elderly, as well as the construction of community halls and the renovation of community libraries, among others.

Oke said the exercise was part of the commission’s mandate to promote accountability and transparency in the implementation of public projects.

“The exercise, which includes assessing the status of various constituency projects, is also aimed at ensuring that public resources are used judiciously to provide quality infrastructure and services to citizens.

“Relevant stakeholders, including community members and civil society organizations, should support the monitoring exercise by providing the commission with relevant information that can help achieve its objectives,” he said.

He added that the monitoring exercise was also aimed at ensuring cost-effectiveness, accountability and transparency in the implementation of public projects.
