The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the ban on Dex Luxury Bar Soap (No 6 Mystic Flower) by the European Union (EU).

The notification was shared in a public alert with No. 012/2024, signed by NAFDAC Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, a professor, and circulated to journalists in Abuja on Sunday.

“The product does not meet the cosmetic products regulation standards and contains Butyphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), a substance prohibited in cosmetic products due to its potential harm to the reproductive system. It can also cause skin sensitization and harm to unborn children,” she explained.

“The EU banned the product due to its defective nature. The product is not listed in the NAFDAC database, so importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers are advised to be cautious and vigilant in the supply chain,” she added.

‘Stop importation, sale, and use’

Mrs. Adeyeye urged marketers and consumers to refrain from importing, distributing, selling, or using the product, emphasizing the need to verify the authenticity and physical condition of the product.

She instructed individuals in possession of the product to cease selling or using it and to surrender their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The NAFDAC director advised healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicions of adverse reactions or substandard and falsified regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office at 0800-162-3322 or via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.

She also urged healthcare professionals and patients to report any adverse events or side effects related to the use of the product to the nearest NAFDAC office.
