Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, from the State of Ondo, has reformulated that health remains a priority of its administration, saying that access to safe, quality and affordable medicines is a fundamental part of the government's commitment to build a healthier and harder state.
The governor made this commitment on Tuesday, during the official start -up of the recently improved central medical stores to a pharmaceutical degree warehouse in Akure, the state capital.
The governor who described the project as a great leap to strengthen the state health provision system said it is also a bold step to eliminate counterfeit drugs and lower quality of public health centers.

Aiyedatiwa explained that the update of central medical stores was the result of a strategic association between the State Government, the Federal Government and the global fund through counterpart financing agreements.
“It became imperative to improve the installation of a pharmaceutical degree warehouse that adheres to international best practices for drug storage, thus protecting the power, safety and quality of all health products,” he said.
The governor emphasized that one of the most significant health threats in Nigeria and Africa in general is the generalized circulation of counterfeit drugs and lower quality.
He assured the public that the new warehouse will strengthen the quality guarantee mechanisms and acquisition systems.
He said: “With this installation, we are taking concrete measures to eliminate false medications from our supply chain.
“We have instituted strict acquisition policies to ensure that all medications are obtained exclusively from manufacturers and registered pharmaceutical importers.”
He affirmed that the installation would not only guarantee optimal storage conditions, but would also improve inventory management, reduce waste and guarantee the timely and safe distribution of health products to hospitals and clinics throughout the state.
The governor also revealed that the State recently collaborated with the Initiative for Access to the Health of Clinton (CHAI) to produce the first edition of the List of Essential Medicines of the State of Ondo, an important advance to standardize the health provision and the availability of medicines.
Previously in his welcome speech, the Executive Secretary of the Medicines and Medicines Management Agency of the State of Ondo (ODHCMA), Pharmaceutical (Dr.) Amos Ayegbusi, described the event as a great leap to strengthen the state health system.
He expressed a deep appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering support, particularly the rapid launch of counterparts that allowed timely completion of the project.
Representing the Minister Coordinator of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, in the Commission, Mrs. Celine Onunkwo, coordinator of the National Product Supply Management Program, described the installation as a critical milestone to achieve universal health coverage.
She emphasized that the warehouse will serve as the backbone of an integrated and efficient system to store and distribute essential medicines and public health products.
Onunkwo praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his commitment to health development and requested a sustained investment in store distribution and maintenance networks to guarantee long -term success.
Meanwhile, the Special Health Advisor, Professor Simidele Odimayo, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Adeniran Ikumola, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership in the progress of the health sector in the state of Ondo.
He pointed out that the update and successful starting of the central medical store is a reflection of the governor's dedication to build a resistant and efficient health system, emphasizing that such investments will have lasting impacts on the provision of services and access to essential medicines for state people.
They attended the event, the Vice Governor, Dr. Olayide Adeami, Secretary of the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Cabinet, Prince according to Omojuwa, traditional rulers, members of the State Executive Council, the main government official, among others.
