The Akwa Ibom state government has denied allegations that CACOVID relief materials have been diverted and shared among members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
A human rights activist, Inibehe Effiong, lawyers and other critics of the government had attacked the governor, Udom Emmanuel, for handing out palliatives to his party members as Christmas gifts.
But the Information and Strategy Commissioner, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, denied the insinuations, stating that the formula for distributing the materials was very inclusive and transparent.
He said: “The state government had hinted at the beginning of November this year of the arrival of relief materials from CACOVID (Coalition Against COVID), which is a corporate social responsibility contribution driven by the private sector to the fight against the devastating pandemic. of COVID-19. It was also announced that when the full donor shipment docks in our state, distribution will begin.
“The structure for the distribution of these palliatives at the LGA level is very inclusive, with representation of people living with disabilities, women, youth, religious organizations, professional bodies and opposition parties under the platform of the Interparty Advisory Committee.
“This committee oversees the distribution of these palliatives to the people who pass through the distribution structure of the intermediate neighborhood. The distribution, which is largely decentralized to comply with COVID-19 protocols, has begun and continues.
“The focus of this palliative distribution batch, apart from the LGAs, is the media, orphanages, medical workers, security personnel, merchants, workers, entertainers and students.
“This palliative distribution is clearly different from the usual year-end goodwill gift of rice to different categories of people.”
