The mayor of Redding California.In the United States, Mayor Mike Littau reported flooding in Northern California on Sunday after heavy rain hit the region, leaving one person dead in Redding and prompting water rescues as storms moved through the state.
Redding’s mayor said one person died as flooding rose in the city.
In a Facebook post, he said local police and fire crews conducted water rescues, while Public Works and Redding Electric Utility crews worked to clear roads and restore power.
Flood watches were in effect for more than 30 million people in California, and officials warned of continued heavy rain and flash flooding in the coming days. Cities across Northern California reported flooded roads and several vehicles were stranded.

The flooding followed repeated atmospheric river systems that have soaked the west coast. A flood watch was issued Saturday for much of Northern California, including Redding and Sacramento, with some areas expected to receive 4 to more than 6 inches of rain.
Forecasters said another coastal storm is expected on Christmas Eve Wednesday, shifting the focus to Southern California. Authorities warned of possible flash flooding, mudslides and debris flows, especially in areas affected by past wildfires, as heavy rains hit Northern California and moved south.
