President Joe Biden signed a temporary spending package on Saturday, locking in federal funding through mid-March and averting a government shutdown even though he technically missed the midnight deadline.
The bill, passed by the Senate on Saturday following a bipartisan vote in the House on Friday night, maintains the current level of government funding.
It also includes $100 billion for disaster relief in regions recovering from severe storms and $10 billion in direct aid for farmers.
“This agreement represents a compromise, meaning neither side got everything they wanted. But it rejects the accelerated path to a tax cut for billionaires that Republicans sought, and ensures that the government can continue operating at full capacity,” Biden said.
This legislation pushes back the next funding deadline until early next year, when Republicans will take control of both chambers of Congress.
