The Board of Directors (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday took steps to resolve the party’s ongoing crisis by setting up a six-member reconciliation committee.
The committee, chaired by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, has a representative from each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He was tasked with resolving the ongoing dispute between members of the National Working Committee (NWC) by reconciling the two warring groups.
The NWC, led by the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, last week suspended the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and three others for alleged anti-party activities.
Anyanwu, in turn, led four other NWC members to suspend Damagum and five national officials, accusing Damagum in particular of “incompetence.”
But the BoT, after an emergency meeting chaired by Senator Adulphus Wabara in Abuja on Wednesday, appointed the committee to ensure the resolution of differences between the two parties, especially as the PDP will go ahead with its National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The body, among other resolutions, said that while it would not take sides with either party, it reaffirmed that the PDP remained united under the Damagum-led NWC and applauded the ruling of an Oyo State High Court, which recognized the right of the PDP to regulate its internal affairs.
