A Superior Court of the State of Edo sitting in the city of Benin has restricted to the Independent Electoral Commission of the State of Edo (EDSIEC) and the State Government to move forward with the planned partial elections of the local government in 59 neighborhoods in the state
Judge Mary E. ITSueli, sitting as a vacation judge, granted the order on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, after an ex -party motion presented by the Democratic Party (PDP) of the peoples.
The PDP, through its advice, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi, Michael Ekwemuka and Pw Akwuen, in the lawsuit, B/247m/2025, had prayed to the Court to request a judicial review of Edsec’s decision to carry out partial elections to occupy positions of councilor for affected sales.
The party argued that the holdings of the councilors are still valid until September 2026, making any attempt to declare their illegal vacancies.
Justice Ishueli, who argued that the applicants had shown enough reasons for the court to intervene.
Remember that the Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) had set on September 20, for the realization of the partial election to occupy councilor’s seats allegedly abdicated by officers elected in 15 areas of the local government of the State.
