The Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, has advised the 3,656 newly admitted students of the university to prepare for rigorous academic work throughout the duration of their programmes.
He gave the advice during the institution’s 19th matriculation ceremony on Tuesday, urging students to seek the face of God and allow His guidance to shape their decisions in their academic pursuits.
The ceremony coincided with the university Christmas Carol, held in the institution’s Convocation Area.
The Vice-Chancellor, who recently presented the 57th Inaugural Lecture of Babcock University, described matriculation not only as a commitment to produce graduates who are globally competitive, morally grounded and socially responsible, but also as a defining rite of passage and a formal induction into the institution’s culture of excellence, discipline and integrity.

He emphasized that enrollment at Caleb University is not a routine ritual but a solemn pact that introduces students to a culture of character, discipline and academic distinction.
The newly admitted students came from all nine faculties of the university, including the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences (CASMAS), the Faculty of Education (COLED), the Faculty of Law (COLAW), the Faculty of Health Sciences (COHEALTHS), the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences (COPAS), the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Management (COLENSMA), the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies (COCIMS), the Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS) and the Faculty of Graduate Studies. (COPGS).
Professor Asikhia urged students to prepare for rigorous academic commitment and a purposeful life, while sharing proven principles for success inside and outside the university environment.
He emphasized faith, obedience, humility, diligence and hard work as indispensable pillars for academic and personal excellence.
“Seek God first and allow His guidance to shape your decisions. Cultivate humility, confidence and obedience to the values that promote discipline. Academic success is not accidental; it is a product of diligence, consistency and hard work,” the Vice Chancellor advised.
The Registrar and Secretary of the Council, Mr. Mayokun Olumeru, noted that the impressive turnout and enrollment reflected sustained public confidence in the academic standards, governance framework and institutional stability of the university.
“The continued interest in Caleb University from parents and students affirms the integrity of our admissions processes, the quality of our graduates, and the administration’s unwavering commitment to a quality education anchored in godliness,” he said.
In a press release, the Information, Media and Publications Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, described the successful holding of both events on the same day as a strong symbol of trust and institutional maturity.
“At Caleb University, matriculation remains a revered platform to properly guide new students at the beginning of their academic journey, while the Christmas Carol reinforces our values of faith, gratitude and community spirit,” he said.
