American actor Chris Evans, best known for his role as Captain America in the Avengers films, welcomed his first child with his wife, Portuguese actress Alba Baptista Evans, known for her role in the Netflix series Warrior Nun.

During an appearance at New York Comic Con in 2023, Evans confirmed that he was married and described their wedding as “really great.”

He said they had two ceremonies, one in Portugal, where Baptista is from, and another on the east coast of the United States. “They were wonderful and beautiful,” Evans said at the time.

The couple has kept their relationship largely private and the news of their baby’s arrival comes as a surprise. However, Evans has often expressed his desire to start a family.

In a 2022 interview with People magazine, after being named the sexiest man alive, he said that getting married and having children is “absolutely something I want.”

“Wife, kids, starting a family,” he told the magazine. “When you read about most of the greatest artists, whether they’re actors, painters, writers, most of them (admit) it wasn’t the work they did (that they’re most proud of), but the relationships, the families they created, the love they found, the love they shared.”

He added: “Those things are the most important. I love the idea of tradition and ceremony. I had a lot of that in my life, so I can’t think of anything better about the idea of creating that.”

Before confirming his relationship with Baptista, Evans told Shondaland in 2022 that he was “focused on finding a partner” to “spend (my) life with.” The following year, he told Access Hollywood that “the title dad is exciting.”

Evans, who retired as Captain America after Avengers: Endgame (2019), recently starred alongside Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal in the romantic comedy Materialists.

While promoting the film, Evans revealed to The Knot that he proposed to Baptista by learning how to say “Will you marry me?” in Portuguese.

“I had practiced all week,” he recalled. “I practiced it so much that I was making breakfast and you’d almost start saying it out loud. You’d be like, ‘Oh, God! That’s not just a song stuck in my head. It’s going to let the cat out of the bag.'”
