Crisis of Benue: Tinubu orders the security chiefs to implement a previous directive, gov tasks on reconciliation

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the security leaders to implement their previous directive to bring peace and security lasting to the state of Benue.

The president said this in a statement from the special advisor on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.

President Tinubu renewed his order following the last round of retaliation attacks that led to the death of many people.

In the president of the president, the Chiefs of Intelligence, the Police and the military have reached the State to direct security operations and restore sanity.

President Tinubu has also accused the governor of Benue's state of convening meetings of reconciliation and dialogue between the parties at war to end the incessant bloodshed and providing lasting peace and harmonious coexistence between farmers, shepherds and communities.

When describing the murders and bleeding as inhuman and anti-procreo, President Tinubu asked the political leaders and community leaders in conflict areas to stop feeding the crisis through declarations and statements without surveillance that could further inflame tensions.

He said: “They should also control those who go out to cause provocations and turn on retaliation attacks.

“The latest news of meaningless murders in the state of Benue is very depressing. We must not allow this blood to continue incessantly. It is already enough.

“I have ordered the security agencies to act decisively and arrest the perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict and process them.

“Political and community leaders in the state of Benue must act responsible and avoid inflammatory expressions that could further increase tensions and murders.

“This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the dialogue and reconciliation process that will bring peace to Benue. Our people must live in peace, and it is possible when the leaders of all divisions work together in harmony and differences are identified and approached with justice, openness and justice.”
