The professor of cardiovascular medicine, Adeseye Akintunde, has advocated early diagnosis and comprehensive national policies to address the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in sub -Saharan Africa.
Akintunde made the call while delivered the 64th Inaugural Conference of the Technological University of Akintola (Lautech), Ogbomoso.
In his conference entitled 'The heart and his poisonous whispers of the disorders', Akintunde said that cardiovascular diseases were the main cause of death worldwide, demanding an interprofessional collaboration for better public health results.
He warned about the increase in heart -related ailments in sub -Saharan Africa, blaming urbanization, obesity and sedentary lifestyles for the increase in hypertension, stroke and cases of heart failure.
Akintunde emphasized the importance of consciousness, changes in lifestyle and mantra “knows their numbers” to help prevent cardiovascular diseases in rapidly developing African societies.
He encouraged Nigerians to regularly monitor blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and weight to prevent cardiovascular emergencies and promote a healthier life.
An Ogbomoso indigenous, Akintunde obtained his MBCHB from the Obafemi Awolowo University in 2003 and became the first Lautch professor of the Department of Medicine in 2020.
Their achievements cover research, community service and training, including the address of the African Hypertension School and the tutoring of dozens of medical professionals, as well as 84 unhealthy workers trained.

“The grace, sand and gratitude define my trip. When the heart beats with the purpose, greatness can be achieved,” Akintunde told an inspired audience during the emotional conclusion of his conference.
The event, which also had free medical exams for blood pressure and sugar, was witnessed by academics, students and members of the university community.
