Edo Queens, Nasarawa FC, FC Robo, Delta Queens Secure Semi-Final Spots


Edo Queens, Nasarawa FC, Robo Queens FC and Delta Queens, yesterday, advanced to the semifinals of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Soccer Tournament (BOWFT) after an impressive display in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Edo Queens cruised to the quarter-finals by crushing Heartland Queens of Owerri 4-0 with Eunice Godwin scoring a hattrick, while Heartland FC’s Kelechi Orji scored an own goal.

Godwin’s three goals came in the 40th, 44th and 46th minutes of the game. Also in the semi-finals is FC Robo, who scored six goals and edged out rival Confluence Queens.

Shukurat Oladipo opened Robo FC’s campaign with a 19th-minute goal, upsetting the normally compact Confluence Queens of Lokoja.

Rukayat Oladiti and Nwokodia Favor scored the second and third goals of the match in the 42nd and 44th minutes, ending the first half 3-0 in favor of Robo FC.

Fifty-five minutes into the second half, Kehinde Akinwande scored for Lagos’ Robo FC before Taiwo Lawal scored his brace in the 59th and 77th minutes of the match to humiliate Confluence Queens.

Meanwhile, the Royal Queens vs. Delta Queens battle royal ended 2-1 after 90 minutes of play in favor of the Delta-based club.

The first goal was a penalty kick converted by Favor Ijeje of Royal Queens in the 31st minute before Chinansa Agoh equalized in the first three minutes of the second half. The decider of the match came through Vera Samuel’s goal in the 71st minute, sending the Royal Queens through to the semi-finals.

Nasarawa Amazons FC beat Naija Ratels 3-2 with Nasarawa’s Dooshima Tarnum scoring the last goal of the match in the 73rd minute to decide the match in favor of the Lafia team.

The tournament, which is Nigeria’s only pre-season women’s football championship, is the brainchild of the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki.
