The Governor of the State of Ekiti, Abiodun Oyebanji, has assured the National Labor Committee of the Progressives Congress (APC) that would break the Jinx of the interrupted tenure of the titular governor in the state of Ekiti.
He secured Wednesday at the National Secretariat of the Party in an event prepared to present his expression of interest and nomination forms. The party’s elementary school to produce its candidate for the July 2026 governor elections is scheduled for next month.
The results revealed that since the creation of the state of Ekiti, the former governors on the Popular Democratic Party platform, Ayodele Fayose and his counterpart in the APC, Dr. Kayode Faiemi, fulfilled two terms, but not in rapid succession.
Governor Oyebanji, who recalled that the interrupted holdings of the titular governors have delayed economic growth in the state, he said he was determined to break the Jinx.
Although he gave the security of not turning any of the contestants for the ticket with him, Governor Oyebanji urged the party to create a leveling playing field for all in the next primary.
He said: “There is a request for which we are supplicating that we have come. And this is very dear to everyone’s heart, from the state of Ekiti. Since the creation of the state of Ekiti, no government has made a second term. No government in the state of Ekiti has made a second mandate in the penalty.
“You know, Iran, they will return. And this has hit us on the canvas. It has delayed the development of the State.
“If people have chosen to come in this issue, to beg it, to help us eliminate this reproach from us as a state, we see it as a Jinx that must break.” We see it as a reproach that has delayed our growth as a state. We do not want current profits to be invested.
“We have absolute confidence in the ability of national leadership to carry out a free and fair primary. We also recognize the rights of anyone, as a member of the loyal party, which is qualified to dispute. I told him that the member of the loyal party.
“We will undergo the primary elections. We will play according to the rules. And we assure you that you have seen it.
“We only wanted to come here to declare that the only thing that is standing against the people of Ekiti and development is this attitude of governors coming. You know, it is not the best for us as a people. And for the same grace of God, I have a divine mandate to break that Jinx and that Jinx will break because God sent us for this purpose.”
In his response, the national vice president, southwest, the honorable Isaacs Kekemeke, assured Governor Oyebanji that the National Secretariat of the Party would do what is necessary to guarantee a perfect primary.
He said that the APC NWC was impressed with mass support for Governor Oyebanji by all interested in the Ekiti state chapter.
“We have seen you and heard you. We have never witnessed a presentation in a way as it is before.
“Ekiti is not new to me, I know leadership.
“We are referees, we will do what you say. This is the basis of what we should do for June next year.
“We must demonstrate for the next year that Ekiti is one. The governor and his team came to make a statement, and that statement had been made aloud and we saw it and listened clearly.”
In his comments, the senator who represents Central Ekiti and Senate leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, declared that the historical achievements of Governor Bamidele would beat him the party’s ticket and, ultimately, a new possession in the next year’s elections out of season.
“Our governor has complied with the infrastructure, the development of human capital and stability. All those interested in Ekiti (previous governors, current legislators and previous and leaders in all the lines of the party) are on the same page. This is the first time we see such a broad consensus.”
