…describes Bamidele as a pillar and stabilizer of the Senate
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibril, said Ekiti State is lucky to have Biodun Oyebanji as the state governor, noting that the state has witnessed transformation under his leadership in the last three years.
The Kano North Senator explained that the governor in the last three years of his administration has initiated programs and policies including infrastructure that are having positive impacts on the people and economy of the state.
The lawmaker spoke at the weekend in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, during the celebration of the 2025 Iyin Day ceremony, where he received chieftaincy titles, along with others.
At the ceremony, the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, was installed as Oluomo of Iyin-Ekiti; Senator Barau as Agba Akin of Iyin-Ekiti; Senator Jide Ipinshagba, Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Procurement, as Aare Bobagunwa of Iyin-Ekiti; Senator Yakubu Lado as Aare Atuluse of Iyin-Ekiti; Honorable. Remi Oseni, Chairman, FERMA Committee of the House of Representatives, as Aare Bobajiroro of Iyin-Ekiti and Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Former Governor of Ekiti State as Asiwaju of Iyin-Ekiti by the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye.
He said: “Governor Biodun Oyebanji is doing very well in the transformation of the state. We have seen the path we went through to the event we attended, well built and in excellent condition. I was here a few months ago, but I saw many new developments that were not there at that time. The governor is doing a wonderful job. The transformation is huge and very impressive.
“My message to the people of Ekiti is simple: vote for the governor next year. He has done very well and continues to deliver impressive results. As I mentioned, I was here several months ago and I can see tremendous improvements. Look at the new, well-built and durable roads. There are many other structures to come; it is almost like a construction site everywhere you look.
“What more can you ask for? The essence of leadership is to help the people, bring prosperity and drive development and that is exactly what he is doing and I will say that Ekiti is lucky to have him as governor this time.”
The Deputy Senate President, who was overjoyed to be part of the celebrations, added that the ceremony was used as a platform to unite the country, saying: “The entire Nigeria was present in Iyin-Ekiti, irrespective of the region.”
Acknowledging Senator Bamidele’s role in stabilizing and ensuring peace in the National Assembly, Barau said Ekiti has made him the pillar and stabilizer of the Senate and in turn working for the progress of the country.
“At the event we attended, I must congratulate the Kabiyesi because it was like a mini-Nigeria, all tribes were represented: the Hausas, the Igbos, the Itsekiris, the Urhobos and many others. Almost all ethnic groups were present.
“And this is exactly what we want in this country, events that promote unity, encourage us to visit each other and strengthen our sense of nationality. Beyond that, the ceremony itself was a huge and impressive tourist attraction. It beautifully showcased our heritage and tradition, very colorful and symbolic,” he said.
Senator Bamidele, who expressed his gratitude to the people of his community for the traditional title, saying it is the first he would receive in his more than three decades through public office.
He noted that the recognition would push him to do more for the community and humanity in general.
The lawmaker representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District commended his colleagues in the National Assembly for supporting his community and the traditional ruler.
