Weeks after his case first came to public attention, the family of three-month-old Adegbite Robiah, who is in urgent need of corrective heart surgery, say they have raised only about N2,090,000 of the N17 million needed, leaving a shortfall of almost N15 million as the November deadline for the procedure approaches.
Robiah, born on May 9, 2026, was diagnosed with a complex congenital heart defect after developing rapid breathing.
An echocardiography report from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, dated July 2, 2026, showed that he has a complete atrioventricular septal defect (balanced), Rastelli type A, which includes a large inlet ventricular septal defect, along with a large ostium primum atrial septal defect, an additional ostium secundum atrial septal defect and a patent ductus arteriosus.
The report also noted a left atrioventricular valve cleft with mild regurgitation, mild right atrioventricular valve regurgitation, dilated pulmonary arteries, and a mild pericardial effusion. Robiah also has trisomy 21.

His LASUTH cardiologist recommended surgery before he turns six months on November 9 and referred the family to the Obafemi Awolowo University Hospital Complex where the procedure is estimated to cost N17m.
The family is also considering a second option through the Kanu Heart Foundation’s independent funding program, which would allow Robiah to be treated in India at a consolidated cost of about N14 million, scheduled for September.
Despite appeals widely shared on social media, the family says donations have fallen far short of what was needed.
A fundraising update distributed by the family put total donations at N2,090,000 against the target of N17 million, leaving a shortfall of N14,910,000.
Her father, Abass Adegbite, had said: “As a father, it is heartbreaking to see your daughter go through this and know that what she needs is beyond what you can afford. We are not asking people for anything other than help to give our daughter a chance to live.”
Her mother also appealed to Nigerians at home and abroad: “We are pleading with anyone in Nigeria or abroad who can help us not ignore our daughter’s situation. We will be grateful for any support, whether financial or through an organization that can help her undergo the surgery.”
