Fela

The spirit of Abami Eda, Late Fela Anikulapokuti, and in large part the music genre he created, Afrobeats continue to live on as US-based Nigerian DJ, DJ Dozzy Ross has opened the first Afro-Caribbean Lounge to immortalize the legend .

DJ Dozzy Ross, born Dozie Udemadu and originally from Anambra state, said the big idea behind the Savor Lounge is for Africans and Caribbeans to have a place they can call home, with their culture and tradition in place, already be it in the form of art. or entertainment.

“It is the only salon in Miami owned by Africans for Africans. For us by us. Where you can come listen to Afrobeats all day. Unlike other places where Afrobeats are only played for 10 minutes and that’s it. It is located in Wynwood, Miami.

We have a large mural of Fela Kuti painted outside. It is a great tourist attraction. People of all races stop by to take pictures and also have the opportunity to taste Nigerian food. It’s huge for Afrobeats to finally have a place that we can call our own.

People don’t look at us like crazy when Zanku and Gbe Body E are at home, “said owner DJ Dozzy Ross, who also revealed that he had had the plan for more than two years with his wife.

DJ Dozzy Ross, who lives in Miami, Florida, has been recognized as one of the pioneers of the Afrobeats movement in the United States and the world.

He has worked with the likes of Davido, Olamide, Tekno, Wizkid, Runtown, Skales, Timaya, Psquare, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, to name a few. Additionally, he worked with Akon and toured with him for his 2017 US tour.

With the launch of the Savor Lounge, DJ Dozzy Ross is only fanning the embers of the fire he had helped start by creating a platform for it to explode.
