FG Commissions 16 projects at the Sokoto Psychiatric Hospital

As part of the renewed hope of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government has commissioned 16 state -of -the -art projects at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Kware, in the state of Sokoto.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, who inaugurated the projects on Wednesday, said the initiative reflects the strategic vision of the administration to strengthen medical care institutions throughout the country.

“President Tinubu is committed to strengthening the nation's health system through better infrastructure, qualified labor, better funding and robust support mechanisms,” Salako said.

He praised the management of FNPH Kware for its prudent use of government resources, pointing out that recently completed projects include a molecular laboratory, intensive care unit, regional drug and children's drug dependence treatment center, accident and emergency center, multipurpose student shelter, Post-basic psychiatric psychiatric nursing school Alternative, among others.

“These projects will significantly improve the patient's care and results, improving the hospital's ability to serve the community,” he added.

Salako revealed that more than 500 key infrastructure projects and modern medical equipment have been delivered to federal tertiary health institutions throughout Nigeria. He added that more than 15,000 health workers were recruited during the past year, supported by the ongoing professional development and the initiative of Nigeria Digital In Health.

To address persistent challenges in hospitals, the federal government is deploying renewable energy solutions and plans to convene a national dialogue about power in the health sector to attract sustainable investments.

In addition, he revealed that a social action fund has been approved to support 109 communities in the implementation of community property health projects. He also announced the next launch of Renewed Hope Health Connect, a fully financed intervention that will provide a million vulnerable attention to vulnerable Nigerians with medical, surgical, essential ophthalmological and audiological care.

Speaking about mental health reforms, the minister highlighted the continuous implementation of the Nigerian National Mental Health Law of 2023. This includes the creation of a mental health desk and a plan to establish a dedicated department within the Ministry.

“Key priorities include the integration of mental health into primary care, the decriminalization of suicide, the reduction of stigma and the regulation of involuntary seclusion.”

Also speaking at the event, the state commissioner of the State of Sokoto, Dr. Faruku Wurno, reaffirmed the state government's commitment to his association with FNPH Kware.

He pointed out that the Hospital Integrated Health Model has expanded collaboration opportunities.
