The Office of the National Security Advisor (ONSA) has dismissed the accusations made by the former governor of Kaduna, Nasir El-Rufai, that the federal security apparatus coordinates payments and other incentives to bandits.
In a statement signed by Zakari Mijinyawa, Onsa described the accusations of BandiderÃa de El-Rufai as “without foundation” and contradicting “verifiable facts in the field.”
“At no time, the ONSA, or any government arm under this administration, are dedicated to rescue payments or incentives to criminals.

“On the contrary, we have constantly warned the Nigerians who do not pay the rescue. The accusations of El-Rufai are not only false but also contradict verifiable facts in the field,” reads the statement.
The agency emphasized that the government has adopted a double strategy of decisive kinetic operations together with community commitments aimed at addressing local complaints.
“The result is evident in areas such as Igabi, Birnin Gwari, Giwa and other parts of Kaduna that once suffered a terror not told in the state of Kaduna, but are now experiencing a relative peace.”
Onsa paid tribute to the members of the security services that lost their lives in the operations, saying that it was “deeply insulting” for a former state governor to deny those sacrifices on national television.
The agency urged El-Rufai and other political actors to stop dragging national security institutions to partisan battles and said the fight against bandider should not be used for political score.
The-Rufai had accused the federal government of adopting an approach to “kiss the body”, claiming a national policy to negotiate and compensate armed groups instead of facing them militarily.
