The state of Gombe and the Federal Government have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the acquisition of the newly built Kumo General Hospital, making it a Federal Medical Center to guarantee its immediate beginning of the operations.
Mou’s signature ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Abuja, with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, signing in the name of the state of Gombe, while the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, signed for the federal government.
They also witnessed the agreement, the health commissioner of the State of Gombe, Dr. Habu Dahiru, health commissioner of Gombe for Health and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Daju Kachallom.
In a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, general director, (Press Affairs) of the Government House, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, praised the collaborative spirit between the state of Gombe and the Federal Government
He also emphasized the importance of such associations on the bridge of the access gaps to medical care throughout the country.
The hospital was built and fully equipped with avant -garde medical facilities by the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
Speaking at the event, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described development as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to expand access to quality medical care, not only for the citizens of Gombe but for the entire region of the northeast.
“This hospital is not just for the people of the state of Gombe. Given the central location of Gombe within the subregion, it will serve as a critical reference installation for the entire northeast and beyond,” said the governor.
Inuwa Yahaya expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the hospital conversion and for his commitment to strengthen the health sector throughout the country under the renewed agenda of hope.
He assured that Gombe State would completely support the soft and effective implementation of the MOU.
The governor also gave an overview of the ruins health system that his administration inherited and described the advances made so far to change the narrative.
Among them are the revolutionary improvements in Primary Health Care (PHC), including the provision of at least two completely functional phcs in each of the 114 political rooms, a feat achieved through strategic investments and associations.
In addition, he pointed out the reconstruction and establishment of three general generation hospitals, one in each senatorial district, as part of the Integral Health Reform Agenda of its administration aimed at expanding access to essential and specialist care.
In his comments, the Minister of Health praised the governor for his vision and execution in the transformation of the health system into Gombe, especially at the level of primary care.
“In the health sector, you have been outstanding and constantly established the rhythm. We appreciate your commitment and association. Your administration reflects the very spirit of the renewed agenda of hope of President Tinubu in the delivery of high -impact projects that directly improve the lives of citizens,” said the minister.
He pointed out that the installation of newly acquired Kumo would become the 16th Federal Hospital established under the current administration and assured that the federal government would immediately begin to mobilize resources, personnel, equipment and operational support to ensure that the hospital begins to function without delay.
The minister also responded positively to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for federal government intervention at the Snake Bita Treatment and Research Center in Kaltungo, ensuring the governor of the preparation of the Ministry to associate with the State in that critical installation.
