The Federation General Accountant, Dr. Shamisldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has promised support for the recognition and professionalization of fiscal professionals within the structure of the Nigeria civil service.
Dr. Ogunjimi guaranteed when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Tax Institute (CITN), led by its president, Mr. Innocent C. Ohagwa, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
In a statement issued by Bawa Mokwa, press director and public relations, the General Accountant said that the request of a professional career dedicated to tax professionals, with the entry at level 10, would formally be presented to the head of the civil service of the Federation.
He stressed that fiscal professionals deserve recognition in the structure of the civil service comparable to that granted to lawyers, doctors and other specialized fields.
In the fiscal perspective of Nigeria, Dr. Ogunjimi said that recently promulgated tax reform laws provide a historical opportunity to remodel the nation’s income framework.
He said that the effective implementation of the reforms would increase the generation of income, block the leaks and reposition the economy for sustainable growth.
He also revealed plans to transform the Treasury Academy into Orozo into a world -class training institute to produce international standards.
According to him, the movement will strengthen professionalism and improve the ability to improve income mobilization.
Previously, the president of CITN, Mr. Ohagwa, congratulated Dr. Ogunjimi for his appointment, describing him as a testimony of competition and years of meritorious service.
He appealed for his support to ensure formal professional progress for fiscal professionals in civil service.
Ohagwa emphasized the critical role of Taxes in Nigeria’s economic development and requested a deeper collaboration between the CITN and the General Accountant Office in training areas and capacities development.
This synergy, he said, would align the fiscal administration of Nigeria with the best global practices and continuous tax reforms.
