The Government of the State of Ogun has advised residents who live in low areas and coastal communities that move to safer environments since the last week of September and the second week of October.
The State Commissioner of the Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, revealed that this is a statement issued by the Ministry’s information officer, Rotimi Oduniyi, that the Council became necessary depending on the expected impact of the overflow of the rain of the following rivers and tide blockages; Ilo, Iju, Owa, Yemule, Meanwhile, RÃos, such as Isheri, Warewa, Akute, Ayetoro, Itele, Iju and those of the coast of Makun, Oni, Iwopin, Igele, Ifaara (Ogun Waterside), Ebute-Imobi (Ijebu East), Tungeji Island and agas Osekias in iPisos. also.
Oresanya gave the warning in the medium -term flood alert of the state of Ogun 2025, saying that residents should be prepared for the second phase of floods, which would last 2 weeks, predictably, from September to annual November.
He pointed out that the aforementioned communities were prone to the high expected rainfall and the arrival of the flow from the northern part of the country and its neighbor, the Republic of Benin, to the states of Ogun and Lagos in the posterior current, and added that the release of water from the Oyan dam could aggravate that of the state of Ogun.
The commissioner revealed that the Nigeria Nimet weather agency had predicted that September would have the largest rain of 204 mm, followed from October to 190 mm, while in November the intensity of the rain wound has been reduced to 93 mm.
Therefore, he assured the residents of these communities that the State Government through its State Emergency Management Agency (Sema) is on a red alert in case of emergency evacuation and relocation to temporary emergency camps distributed by the State, while the Ministry of the Environment is also working closely with the development authority of the Ogun River basin – Minimum of Barest.
Oresanya also urged the residents of these communities to avoid the use of wells and water from the well during this period, since they are subject to pollution due to expected floods and tide variations.
He also took the opportunity to call fish producers who grow in floods of flooding of rivers and streams throughout the state to harvest their fish to avoid them being dragged by floods, while fish fish in Eriwe, Yemule, both in Ijebu Ode, Ilease as Ayegbami in Yewa have equally advised to the advice without further delay.
While thanking State residents for their understanding on all environmental issues, especially in their annual flood alert, he praised them for their cooperation with the state government in the last six years, which had reduced floods and their impact on the entire state, while promised the state government commitment to continually do what the State is necessary to make flood free.
