The Palestinian city of Khan Younis was hit by strong air attacks during the night, since Israel continued its intensive military campaign through the Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa on Monday, 17 people died in the coastal enclave during the night. Initially no more details were provided about the identities of the victims.
Medical sources in Gaza reported that at least six people died and dozens were injured in the air attacks of Khan Younis. The witnesses told DPA that approximately 30 air attacks were launched in the area.
Large parts of the city experienced interruptions on the Internet in the middle of the bombing.
Wafa's reports and other Palestinian media indicated that a special unit of the Israeli army killed a commander of the Al-Nanser Salah Al-Din brigades, an allied group with the Islamist movement Hamas. This information could not be confirmed independently.
The Israeli army declared that “he did everything possible to avoid civil casualties by attacking objectives belonging to Hamas or other terrorist organizations.”
This statement could not be verified independently, since journalists have very limited access to the region.
The Israeli Air Force has carried out generalized aerial assaults in the objectives of Strip Gaza in recent days. On Sunday, Israel announced a new “extensive” land operation throughout the territory.
Dozens of Palestinian deaths continue to be reported daily from the Gaza Strip.
