The Sokoto State Government has debunked reports alleging that the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, accompanied his Abia State counterpart, Dr Alex Otti, to visit Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Custody Centre.

The state government, in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, stated that Governor Aliyu was not part of the Abia Governor’s entourage during the said visit.
Online tribune reports that following a judgment by the Federal High Court that sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment, Governor Otti of Abia State visited the IPOB leader in Sokoto Prison, assuring that efforts to secure his release have been resumed.
The Sokoto State Government then explained that Governor Ahmed Aliyu was in the Holy Land performing the Lesser Hajj on November 30, 2025, at the time Otti privately visited Sokoto State.
“Upon arrival at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto, Dr. Otti was received by selected commissioners and special advisers, who subsequently took him to the Government House, Sokoto, where he was accorded the usual courtesies extended to visiting state governors.
“As you all know, the people of Sokoto are hospitable. We treat our visitors with the utmost respect, regardless of their tribe or religion,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has deep respect for constituted authority, remains committed to the Nigerian project and remains a peace-loving and law-abiding citizen.
