Sokoto Governor Ahmed Aliyu has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Urban Governor and Housing Friend Award.
The Governor reviewed the list of three Governors previously nominated for the 2024 award to emerge as the overall winner.
A statement released by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, said on Thursday that the prestigious award was awarded to Governor Aliyu in recognition of his outstanding performance in urban planning and housing development, as well as ensuring an effective system in the issuance of occupancy certificates. . in Sokoto State.
“It may be recalled that Governor Aliyu has so far constructed and commissioned over 30 municipal roads, and over 40 different roads are being constructed in the metropolitan areas of the state.
“On housing policy, the Governor is currently constructing 1,000 houses located in Gidan Salanke and Wajake, and also purchased 137 houses built by the federal government in Kwannawa area as part of measures to address the housing deficit faced by the people. in the state.”
The award was presented to Governor Ahmed Aliyu in a colorful ceremony held in the country's capital, Abuja.
Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto, Chuso Abdullah Dajjijo, received the award on behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
In his brief remarks, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Lawyer Nasiru, Aliyu Dan Tsoho, highlighted Governor Aliyu’s gigantic strides in the area of roads and housing construction in the state.
