Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has signed into law the 2026 budget.

The brief ceremony took place in the council chamber of Government House in Minna.

The total amount of the 2026 budget, approved and signed, was over N1.073 trillion, compared to the over N1.031 trillion initially proposed by the agricultural governor, indicating an upward revision.

The 2026 budget includes over N783 billion in capital expenditure and over N290 billion in recurrent expenditure.

He gave the 10th State Assembly a perfect score of 100 percent, stating that the rapid response of leaders and members to the needs of the executive arm is unprecedented, which he believes is a hallmark of democracy.

He also praised the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Hajiya Aishat Teni Usman, along with her team, for their unwavering efforts in budget planning.

Bago assured that the budget will be executed effectively to achieve the desired goals.

Previously, the Speaker of the Tenth House of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Abdulmalik Sarkindaji praised the governor and his team for producing what he described as “the best” budget estimate, noting that it was easy to examine and that the MDAs cooperated fully to make the process smooth.

He also commended the governor for his wisdom, dedication and perseverance in delivering good governance, and assured the continued collaboration of the Assembly with the executive arm for the betterment of the state.
