Tomorrow is the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) 2025, one day reserved to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and its preservation is celebrated on May 22 of each year.

The day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1992. The International Day for Biological Diversity is dedicated to the links between the objectives of the Kunming-Monreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS).

In its resolution A/Res/55/2 201 with February 8, 2001, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed on May 22 as the International Day for Biological Diversity to increase the understanding and awareness of biodiversity problems. This date commemorates the adoption of the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on May 22, 1992.

In the same resolution, the General Assembly reiterated its request to the United Nations Secretary General, the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program and the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity to take all the necessary measures to guarantee the successful observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).

The day is to provide the opportunity to promote broad support for the implementation of the Convention, its related protocols and action frameworks and this year's issue is “harmony with nature and sustainable development”

The IDB 2025 campaign seeks to focus the world's attention on the links between the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the objectives and objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) as two universal agendas that must be followed in Tandem in the spirit of the pact recently adopted for the future.

And to participate, defenders are obliged to spread messages from high -level representatives of relevant parts and organizations. As a result, messages are requested on the topic of IDB 2025 of high -level representatives of relevant parties and organizations in one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

Everyone is expected to participate in the IDB 2025 campaign, including the private sector, the media, the academy and the general public because everyone has a story to tell about biodiversity and the issue of IDB 2025.

Progress in the detention and investment of biodiversity loss is crucial for the achievement of the SDGs. On the contrary, the search for the SDG catalyzes or causes the transformations that, according to the latest evaluations of the Intergovernmental Scientific Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), are necessary to meet the vision adopted within the KMGBF: Live in harmony with nature. This interactive tool illustrates the links between the KMGBF and the SDG at the target level and will constitute a centerpiece of the IDB 2025 campaign.

This campaign also focuses on instilling a sense of urgency and advocating accelerated implementation. In 2025, both the KMGBF and the 2030 Agenda will have five more years before the 23 action objectives of the former, and the 17 SDG of the last reach the end of the period that the world agreed to its implementation.

The Specific Objectives of the IDB 2025 Campaign Include: To Bolester Public Awareness of the Centrality of Biodiversity to All Life on Earth, Including Socio-Economic Challenges Such As Poverty and Inequality That Are Covered By The Full Set of Sdgs, Call for The Rapid Preparation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action plans (NBSAPS) that are contributing their support to national actors through consolidated sustainable development cooperation frames that reflect the KMGBF and SDG.

It is also to encourage the bolder initiatives of all actors, including the private sector, civil society and the media. These initiatives can vary from the communication of the science of biodiversity, advocate for the accelerated implementation of the SDGs and the KMGBF and initiate the transformations required to decoupling the socio -economic progress of the destruction of nature.
