A head of the Congress of all the progressives (APC) and the former vice president of the House of the Oyo State Assembly, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (San), has revealed the financial contribution of the designed of Olubadan, Oba Rasidi Aidoja, to the Movement of Profirracy of June 12 and the operation of the National Democratic Coalition (Nadeco).
Akintola announced this while appearing in a popular Yoruba program known as ‘Gbagede Oselu’ at the state television station, BCOS, Ibadan, on Saturday.
Amaja, according to him, joined the Pro Democracy movement after the Military Board led by the general general Sani Abacha confiscated power in 1983.
The monarch, before this time, represented the Senatorial District of southern Oyo in the National Assembly
He explained that many do not realize the extent to which the Commercial Empire on the other hand was drained in support of the activities of the June 12 movement and Nadeco.
He said: “The business onwards suffered serious setbacks due to their support to the pro democracy activist of June 12.
“It is registered that during the period, Amaja had the largest palm plantation in the state of Rivers Cross, which was then considered the largest in Western Africa.
“Planting income and its other businesses were being used to finance the operation of the movement.”
He stressed that the Commercial Empire on Aigaja never completely recovered from the financial sacrifices made during that period, pointing out that while the monarch lost a lot, others with little or no connection with the democratic struggle now occupy political offices and harvest the benefits.
Akintola added that as comrades Maskood Erubami have nothing to show for the stability of the government in the country.
Erubami, according to him, had disputed without success for various political positions.
“Some politicians who occupy several political offices in the country have no link with the struggle for the democratic government in the country.
“People like Maskood Erubami went to prison several times during Nadeco’s days. These are people who paid the price of democracy, but their contributions are often overlooked,” Akintola added.
