The Rivers State Administrator, the Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retired), has stated that the mandate given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has “achieved enough” with the restoration of democratic governance in the bases.
Ibas made the comment on Friday at the Government’s house, Port Harcourt, during the presentation of the report on the local government elections recently concluded by the Independent Electoral Commission of the State of RÃos (RSIEC).
He recalled that Tinubu, on March 18, 2025, ordered him to stabilize the State, restore their institutions and return rivers to democratic totality after their appointment as the only administrator.
According to him, the successful conduct of the surveys and the swear of presidents and councilors elected in the 23 areas of the local government marked the fulfillment of that mandate.
“The mandate of Mr. President for me was clear: to stabilize the State, create an environment conducive to the restoration of its institutions and return the state of the rivers to the democratic totality. With the successful conduct and swear of the presidents of the local government and their advice, I think we have decisively achieved the mandate they gave us,” I had established.
He praised RSIEC for what he described as a credible and transparent choice, pointing out that the exercise was free of harassment and the voters freely expressed their choices.
I was added that the Government would review the RSIEC report and issue a white document in due time. He also praised his team, security agencies and state officials for their contributions.
The president of RSIEC, Dr. Mike Odey, who presented the report previously, described the election as a “historical achievement” for the rivers and the country. He stressed that he was organized, coordinated and concluded within 30 days, an unprecedented record in Nigerian electoral history.
