Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North West Local Government Area of Oyo State have opposed the extension of the term of the party’s acting chairman, Olusola Tokunbo Adekanbi.

On Thursday, members unanimously ordered the acting president and his team to immediately leave their positions to allow the elected and recognized president, Jelili Asukuna and his team to take their rightful positions.

The APC members made these statements during an emergency meeting held on Thursday at the Ebenezer African Church Primary School, Omitowoju area of Ibadan.

Hundreds of party members attended the meeting.

Adekunle Akande, a leader of the party in the local government area who moved the motion, noted that the members took the decision to address all the issues facing the party in the local government area.

“We will all benefit from this party. We are here to find solutions to the problems that affect us. We will not allow them. How can we benefit too? We want to put an end to this.

“We want the authentic executives to occupy their rightful positions. Those who govern us are not the authentic executives. We want the authentic and recognized president and all the other executive members to assume power.

“We want the current acting president to step aside. In this sense, we have taken a position that they should step aside. We resolve that all authentic executives occupy their positions. We elect them, they are those recognized by the party at the national level. There is no crisis here.”

Hon Remi Ajanaku, former leader of the legislative arm of Ibadan North West Local Government Area, noted that the members decided to take the step to restore sanity in the political party.

He said: “Our resolution today is that we have asked the acting president to step aside and allow the real president to take office. We have taken the decision today.”

“We did this to restore sanity in the political party. There are some illegal things happening and we want to correct them.
