Kelechi Iheanacho

By Temisan Amoye,

Super Eagles attackers Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Chukwueze were disused substitutes as their clubs secured vital victories before heading to the international break.

Iheanacho’s Leicester took on the Wolves at the King Power Stadium, hoping to secure a victory that would put them at the top of the Premier League record.

The victory was secured by a single goal by Jamie Vardy, scored from the spot in the 15th minute. Vardy was unable to double his tally after seeing his second penalty saved by Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Iheanacho’s fate on the bench was sealed in the 80th minute, after Foxes coach Brendan Rodgers made his last substitution of the game in the 80th minute. His teammate Wilfried Ndidi remains out of action due to a groin injury, from which the midfielder is expected to recover in late December.

Faced with a similar circumstance, Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze did not participate in the 1-3 victory of the yellow submarines in Getafe.

Unai Emery’s men went ahead thanks to Spanish striker Paco Alcácer in the 11th minute, but Getafe responded quickly in the 16th minute thanks to a goal from Arambarri.

Manu Trigueros responded instantly, reestablishing Villarreal’s lead in the 17th minute. Forward Gerard Moreno sealed the deal in the 62nd minute, putting the yellow subs to 3-1.

Iheanacho has made 3 appearances for Leicester in the league and has yet to make a direct goal or assist contribution, while Chukwueze has made 8 La Liga appearances, scoring one goal and scoring just one assist.

With the international hiatus looming this week, the lack of playing time for two of Nigeria’s top-rated attackers could be a source of concern for Nigerian fans.
