It signals the beginning of bad times in the South – MBF

By Peter Duru, Makurdi

The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, said Tuesday that the reported case of a suicide bomber in Ebonyi state marks the beginning of a bad time for the southern part of the country as a whole.

MBF National President Dr. Bitrus Pogu said in Makurdi that the development was a wake-up call for the federal government to head-on the security challenges facing the country as it is spiraling out of control.

According to him, “that is, what is happening in Borno has reached the southeast or the whole south at full speed. It’s a wake-up call and the sooner we address some of our security issues and confront them head-on, the better for everyone.

“Remember that during the administration of former President Jonathan, suicide bombings were very rampant. These people came in and I think they had some arrangements, I’m sorry to say that, and it just stopped.

“Is it that they ran out of dynamite or materials to make bombs? I do not think. Something must be going on that we couldn’t see out in the open, but it stopped.

“Now, the introduction of suicide bombings and other forms of bombing in the Southeast, for me, signals the beginning of a bad time in the South in general.

“Before now, let’s say recently, shouts were coming out from everywhere that the south is being infiltrated by murderous shepherds, bandits or whatever.

“And now, with the introduction of bombings, be it suicide bombing or planted, it has created a new dimension and the South needs to wake up. That is organized crime that is happening in the North, particularly in the Northeast now rearing its head in the Southeast and eventually throughout the South.

“So everyone should be a suspect until proven innocent, and this is how they will survive. It is a warning and a call to attention to the security agents, to everyone’s vigilantes to install facilities that prevent the bombardment of people and facilities in the south.

“Let them learn from what happened in the north so that everyone is protected,” he added.
