The Water Board of the state of Kano has increased its monthly income to more than N160 million, a significant leap of the N50 million it was generating previously.
This remarkable increase was announced by the Water Resources Commissioner, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, during a recent press conference on the activities of his ministry.
According to Commissioner Doguwa, the 300 percent increase in income is the result of radical reforms introduced by its ministry to transform the water sector.

He pointed out that the Board can now pay comfortably the salaries of its staff, a feat that could not achieve before due to the increase in the minimum wage to N70,000.
“When we entered, the Kano Water Board was generating less than N50 million as revenues per month, but now I can tell you that we are generating approximately more than N160 million in one month, doubling the amount by 300 percent,” he said.
Doguwa also stressed that his ministry has carried out an integral census of all industries in Kano.
This census, he explained, was a crucial part of the reform strategy aimed at improving income collection, improving the provision of services and guaranteeing justice in turnover.
The commissioner said that the reforms had created a more sustainable financial water board, promoted the morale of the staff and established the bases for the development of long -term infrastructure.
He added that while they have been working tirelessly, it is impossible to undo the mistakes of eight years in just two years.
Alhaji Doguwa reassured the public about the commitment of the Kano state government to provide clean and drinkable drinking water to the population, which according to him will improve the welfare of people.
