Kent Duchess, Katharine Worsley, dies at 92

Buckingham Palace has announced the death of the Duchess of Kent, Katharine Worsley, who died at the age of 92.

Born in an aristocratic family in Yorkshire, in northern England, she married Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, who was cousin cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Widely recognized for her long association with the Wimbledon tennis tournament, the Duchess was well known by the public for presenting trophies to champions over the years.

“It is with a deep sadness that the Buckingham Palace announces the death of its real highness of Kent’s duchess,” the palace said in a statement on Friday.

The statement added: “The King and Queen and all the members of the Royal Family join the Duke of Kent, their children and grandchildren to cry their loss and remember with affection the devotion of the whole life of the Duchess to all the organizations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”

As a sign of respect, the flag of the Union in the Buckingham Palace was reduced to half a burning at noon.
