The president of the Chamber of the Ekiti State Assembly, Aibasoye, has described the legislature as the beat of any democratic system and governance in the world.
The speaker explained that, among other arms of the government, the legislature served as an institution through which the will of the people is expressed, the laws and the government are made at all levels is responsible.
Aribasoye, who was represented by the Chamber leader, Tolulope IGE, spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, while declared a three-day workshop on legislative practices and procedures open.
The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Affairs of the Local Government in collaboration with the Constitutionalism and Human Development Center for Legislative Weapons (members of Legislative Officers and the Secretary of the Chamber) in the areas of the local government in the State.

He added that the legislative councils of local governments are critical and are the closest to people and “their effectiveness directly affects the basic development that are indispensable to guarantee transparency, responsibility and governance oriented to people.”
He praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji for granting a premium in the development of sustainable loyal legislation in the state, noting that the success of governance depends on the functionality of grassroots institutions.
Aribasoye emphasized that the purpose of the workshop is to shape the destination of Ekiti, lay the foundations for stronger democratic governance and sustainable development to empower with the necessary tools to download their duties in a responsible manner.
The permanent secretary of the Ministry, Babatunde Olaoye explained that it was part of the continuous efforts of the Ministry to strengthen governance in the bases and that it would continue to create platforms for learning, collaboration and innovation in the state.
In his opening comments, the main consultant of the Constitutionalism and Human Development Center, Tope Agunbiade said the workshop was organized to participate in the discourse on the practice, procedure and roles of the Legislature at the third level of the Government.
He said that this aims to deliver expected dividends of democracy to people in the bases.
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (Algon) Olusegun Eye encouraged participants to fully cooperate and participate in the seminar to learn a lot, since governance is one of the pillars of this administration.
