The Deputy Speaker of Kebbi State Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, kidnapped on October 31, 2025, has regained his freedom.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed his release in a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who said the lawmaker had been reunited with his family after receiving medical attention.
Abubakar praised the courage and resilience of the combined team of security personnel involved in the search and rescue operation and expressed gratitude to the residents for providing vital information that aided the safe return of the Vice President.
“Accordingly, the State Command reiterates its sustained attack against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. It urges residents to remain calm, be alert and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or other security agencies for prompt response,” the statement read.
Bagudo was abducted from his hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area shortly after observing afternoon prayers and leaving the mosque towards his residence.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the city, captured the 60-year-old lawmaker and took him to an unknown destination, sparking tension among residents.
Following the kidnapping, the Kebbi State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and local vigilance groups, launched a coordinated search that ultimately led to his rescue.
