A 41-year-old man, Nathan Brown, allegedly killed his wife and seven-year-old daughter with a screwdriver at a daycare center in Hopkins, Minnesota, United States.

The suspect allegedly attacked his 41-year-old wife, Kristen Brown, and their daughter, Evie, at the daycare center operated by Kristen from the basement of their home.

According to police, a father who arrived to drop off his children heard screaming in the basement and entered the building. He initially thought Brown was performing CPR before realizing a seizure was occurring.

He immediately alerted the emergency services and helped evacuate the children.

Six children were reportedly in daycare at the time of the incident, but none were injured.

Police said Brown later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators are also looking into whether Brown was involved in the death of a 78-year-old woman found dead in a home in Burnsville, about 20 miles from Hopkins.

The motive for the murders remains unclear.

According to a search warrant, Kristen had recently informed her parents that she intended to close the daycare due to “relationship issues” with her husband.

The daycare had been licensed since 2019 and had passed state inspections in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Police said investigations into the deaths are ongoing.
