A 74-year-old man in India who wanted to see who among the residents of his area and his relatives would mourn his death, faked his death and organized a fake funeral to see who would attend if he finally died, the country’s media reported.
People in Konchi, a village in the Indian state of Bihar, were shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Mohan Lal, the 74-year-old former Air Force veteran.
It was confusing to see a procession when most people didn’t even know he had died, but that didn’t stop people from joining the procession, mourning the man, and participating in all the traditional rituals.
But what really surprised people was the moment when Mohan stood up from his coffin.
They soon learned that the funeral was nothing more than a twisted test devised by the 74-year-old to see how many people cared about him.
“After death, people carry the coffin, but I wanted to witness it and know how much respect and affection people give me,” Mohan said when asked why he went to the trouble of organizing his own funeral.
Mohan asked some of his relatives to help him spread the word about his demise and had other people carry him to the crematorium in a decorated coffin to make the stunt believable.
Hundreds of residents rushed to join the mourning ceremony, which pleased Mohal and assured him of the community’s respect.
To make the residents, neighbors and some relatives forgive him for the mock funeral, Mohan Lal organized a grand party for all the attendees.
