The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology of the State of Lagos revealed on Friday that more than one million subscribers, in the last year, have been added to the Internet in the state under its Metro Fiber project.
The State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, announced this during the 2025 ministerial press conference on Friday to commemorate the second anniversary of the second term of the administration of the Babajide Sanwo-olu Governor.

Alake declared that the number of Internet subscribers in Lagos had increased to approximately one million between 2024 and 2025, due to the “efforts of the state government in the deployment of fiber and connectivity.”
According to the commissioner, the Metro Fiber project seeks to deliver 6,000 kilometers of fiber optic ducts to increase digital penetration, adding that building a digitized city would require physical infrastructure connections to improve the digital connectivity of the state.
Alake said that the ministry was achieving an economy driven by 24 hours in a safe and safe environment, thus increasing the GDP of the State, noting that they had been able to achieve a safe city in Lagos, registering an increase in the application of digital traffic.
The government is building a digitalized city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which would allow companies to operate in a safe and safe environment, thus creating a safer and more conducive environment for companies, more jobs and increasing the GDP of the State.
“This project implies the deployment of intelligent video cameras in strategic locations in the state with the execution and completion distributed in the points in time, in phases, L, LL and LLL, respectively,” he said.
In addition, the commissioner said that state data infrastructure had been digitized to provide a more efficient civil service, adding that the digitalization process also facilitates viable associations with interested parties of the private sector to boost solutions for the government through sandboxes (technical staging areas).
This was just as he said that the Ministry, in the last year, had been able to digitize a series of activities in the state, including the digitalization of state data infrastructure, administer the payment of the oracle for state government employees, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) tools promoted by chatbot to improve the delivery of services, as well as help residents be better to residents.
According to the commissioner, the State is promoting broadband to guarantee public connectivity, saying that the Lagos Identity Card project had continued to operate an open frame that allowed multiple parties to participate in the operations and benefits of the year, as a means to create more value for the government and companies within the State.
