Dell Technologies founder Micheal Dell will donate $6 billion in ‘Trump accounts’ for newborns.
The Dell Technologies founder will join US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to formally announce the contribution aimed at fueling millions of new investment accounts for babies born between 2025 and 2028.
The White House told USA TODAY that Dell’s donation will add $250 each to approximately 25 million “Trump accounts,” on top of the federal government’s initial $1,000 contribution for each eligible newborn.
Under the program, families can begin contributing to the accounts in July 2026, with funds invested in mutual or index funds linked to the stock market.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill Trump Accounts are a groundbreaking investment by the federal government in the next generation of American children,” said White House spokesman Kush Desai. He called Dell’s move the first major private contribution and urged other business leaders to join.
“Trump accounts,” created under the sweeping One Big Beautiful bill passed in July, function as child-focused versions of IRAs, intended to encourage long-term savings and wealth creation. Any newborn with a Social Security number qualifies, with no income limits. Parents, employers, governments and charities can contribute each year, up to a set limit.
Funds can later be withdrawn for education, a down payment on a first home, or starting a small business, and withdrawals are taxed at long-term capital gains rates.
Dell has publicly supported the program, attending a White House event in June alongside companies such as Salesforce, Uber and Goldman Sachs, which have also pledged contributions for their employees’ children. The idea dates back to Republican Senator Ted Cruz’s “Invest America Act.”
“Inspired by President Trump’s signing of the Invest America Act, Susan and I are thrilled to contribute $6.25 billion to generate 25 million additional accounts for American children, beyond the U.S. Treasury’s commitment,” Dell said, adding that early financial support can “instill confidence” and help young Americans build momentum for their future.
The Treasury Department and the IRS are preparing guidance on how the accounts will be implemented. The White House is also highlighting other elements of the One Big Beautiful Bill that will be implemented next year, including the extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, the elimination of tip taxes, new funding for the border wall and stricter eligibility for Medicaid and food assistance.
