The governor said that preliminary reports indicated that the victims were traveling from Tsaria in the state of Kaduna to the local government of Quan'pan in the state of Plateau for a wedding.
They lost their course and inadvertently entered into a tense and volatile situation in Mangun, a community that has faced ongoing terrorist attacks.
He said, tragically, the incident resulted in the loss of eight innocent lives, while several others suffered varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital of Mangu.
Governor Mutfwang, who visited the survivors in the hospital and the scene of the unfortunate incident, expressed a deep pain and described the action of the mafia as totally condemnable and avoidable.
He pointed sadly that the Mangun district and the adjacent districts of Chakfem in Mangu Lga and Mushnere in Bokkos Lga have suffered, for more than a month, coordinated terrorist assaults that result in daily casualties and massive displacements, communities in communities and anguish. However, he emphasized that prolonged attacks do not justify such an insensitive act against innocent travelers.
Speaking at the incident scene, Governor Mutfwang said: “Today is a tragic day for us in the state of the plateau. I never imagined that such an insensitive act of violence could occur within our borders, especially taking into account the commendable efforts of our young people in this community and neighboring districts that have constantly arisen to support security agencies in defense against criminal incursions.
“It is deeply discouraging that the same young people who have shown courage and patriotism would change and take the law in their own hands. This is completely unacceptable, and the government will not sweep it under the carpet. We are working to build a plateau that is welcomed to all and hospitable to visitors.
Governor Mutfwang also declared: “I want to assure the Nigerians that Plateau is still a safe place for all travelers.
