•I don’t want our marriage to dissolve – Wife
The Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned for judgment a divorce suit filed before it by a man, Lasisi, against his wife, Taibat, whom he accused of being stubborn, destructive and diabolical. He added that she tried to commit suicide.
Lasisi said Taibat had no respect for him and always ignored any advice he gave him.
The plaintiff also claimed that her home had never been peaceful because the defendant always insisted on having her way.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant gets angry easily and would destroy the property of the house if he were in this state.
Lasisi made reference to a time when she destroyed his machine after a heated argument and he got the police to arrest her.
He further said that Taibat failed to fulfill her responsibility as a mother towards her children.
Lasisi explained that Taibat refused to collaborate with him to give his children a good education, which caused his children to become wayward.
Lasisi again claimed that Taibat attempted suicide by drinking cement after handing over his first child to the police when he stole.
The plaintiff said that he was no longer interested in moving forward with his marriage and therefore prayed for its dissolution.
He also sought an order prohibiting his wife from harassing, threatening and interfering with his private life.
Taibat denied everything Lasisi said.
He also refused to have his union dissolved.
Taibat accused her husband of always having the habit of hitting her.
According to the defendant, she ended up in the hospital the last time her husband hit her.
Lasisi, in his testimony, said: “My wife started living with me a few months after we met.
“I didn’t pay the bride price.
“Marrying my wife was the biggest mistake I have ever made in life.
“My joy and peace had left me since I married her.
“Taibat treated me with disdain and did not value any advice I gave him.
“We fight almost every day because she is rigid and stubborn.
“My wife refused to cooperate with me to raise our children well.
“This led them to engage in shady activities.
“Our first son stole my mother’s money and I got the police to arrest him.
“My wife, instead of bowing her head in shame, decided to put me in trouble.
“He mixed cement with water and drank.
“She was rushed to the hospital and admitted.
“I paid a lot while she was in the hospital.
“My lord, Taibat almost ruined me.
“He had a habit of destroying my property whenever we fought.
“She even destroyed the machine I used to power the house.
“I got so angry and frustrated that I arrested her with the police.
“My wife is also delicious and devilish.
“He liked to pour strange substances all over the house.
“Once my mother caught her pouring a fetish object on my door and she reported me.
“My wife, disgusted, went to fight with my mother in her store and threw her merchandise.
“I moved out of our house when it was obvious that my wife would manage to send me to an early grave with her many atrocities.
“Taibat still refused to let him have peace of mind.
“Now he comes to my workplace to fight with me and fire my clients.
“They told me that our son stopped coming home after stealing some things from the house.
“My lord, I am done with my wife and my marriage.
“I pray that the court dissolves our union.
“I am also requesting an order restraining him from threatening and interfering with my private life.
“Everything he said is a lie.
“I refused to let our marriage dissolve.
“I didn’t drink cement or throw away his mother’s goods.
“I don’t know what I did, which made him drag me to court.
“My husband had the habit of hitting me.
“The last time he hit me, he almost killed me.
“I was admitted to the hospital for weeks.
“I didn’t spill fetish stuff on his door either.
“Everything he said is aimed at gaining the favor of the court.”
The president of the court. Mrs SM Akintayo adjourned the case.
