NAFDAC Seizes Illegal Drugs Worth N107 Million From Abuja Motor Parks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cracked down on motor parks and seized illegal drugs worth 107 million in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria.

NAFDAC revealed this in Dunamis Market, Garki; Zuba Market; Nyanya Motor Park and Asokoro, over a period of two days.”

Likewise, he noted that among the seized items were “Tramadol 225 mg, Rohypnol, Diazepam, Cod Amol, aphrodisiacs and codeine syrups.”

The agency estimated the value of the cost of the seized drugs at more than £107 million.

According to NAFDAC, its Investigation and Enforcement and Federal Task Force Directorate acted on intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS) and carried out a major raid against drug peddlers in motor parks and markets in the FCT.

He further stated that during the raid 20 suspects were arrested and more than 50 items containing illegal and dangerous drugs were confiscated.

“Those detained are under investigation and all confiscated products will be destroyed. “This raid is part of an ongoing effort to rid public spaces of illegal drug sales and ensure public safety,” the agency said.

PREMIUM TIMES recently reported that NAFDAC arrested drug peddlers and seized drugs worth N50 million in Apapa, Lagos State.

The items were seized by NAFDAC’s law enforcement and investigation directorate during a targeted raid on drug peddlers.

He noted that among the seized products were aphrodisiacs and other illicit drugs.

“A wide range of illicit drugs were confiscated, including aphrodisiacs, narcotic substances (including tramadol), antibiotics and over-the-counter medications,” the agency stated.

The agency said the operation was part of its ongoing efforts to combat the distribution and sale of unauthorized pharmaceutical products.

“The arrested persons will be processed accordingly and the confiscated drugs will be destroyed,” he said.
