The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare of Nigeria, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has requested sustainable financing for medical care at Commonwealth.
Speaking at the 37th Meeting of Health Ministers of the Commonwealth in Geneva, Switzerland, Salako emphasized the importance of investing in health for an equitable community.

“The issue of the meeting is very suitable at this time” invest in health: sustainable financing for an equitable community. “
“Smart health spending is an essential element of sustainable financing. We advocate ascending budgets, emphasizing primary health care and preventive services, local manufacturing, the acquisition of swimming pools, the effective deployment of digital technology, etc.,” he said.
Salako highlighted Nigeria's progress in the improvement of his health system, citing the renewal investment initiative of the Health Sector of Nigeria (NHSRII) as a key part of the renewed agenda of hope.
“The current administration in my country, under its excellence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dealing with health as an urgent issue of human law for all Nigerians.
“The NHSRII has increased investment in medical care, with an approach to national financing, better health results and medical care value chains,” he said.
Salako said the initiative has led to a greater infrastructure investment in tertiary health centers and the revitalization of primary medical care centers.
He said: “Nigeria has achieved significant progress in the improvement of his health system. A remarkable achievement is the introduction of HPV vaccination of routine for girls from 9 to 14 years, which has immunized more than 12 million girls and has achieved a coverage rate of approximately 71%.
“The country is also promoting the local manufacture of essential medicines, including networks treated with insecticides, therapeutic foods ready for use and vaccines. This initiative aims to unlock the medical care value chains and reduce dependence on imported medications.
“In addition, Nigeria is increasing the use of digital technology in its health system through the initiative of Nigeria Digital In Health. This effort is expected to improve medical care, improve data management and increase access to medical care services.
“In addition to these efforts, Nigeria is implementing innovative financing strategies to address catastrophic health conditions, such as chronic renal cancers and diseases.
“The government has also launched a social action fund to train communities to implement health promotion projects, further improving the country's health system.”
The meeting provided a platform for Commonwealth Health Ministers discussing and sharing best practices in health financing, with an approach to achieving sustainable and equitable health systems. Salako's call is expected for sustainable financing to resonate with other member countries, since they work together to address common medical care challenges.
Salako emphasized the need for Commonwealth to work together to promote member countries of sustainable health financing and support.
“Nigeria urges Commonwealth to continue working in unison for the well -being of member countries and their people as we promise our continuous support for sustainable health financing in Commonwealth,” he added.
The result of the meeting is expected to say the future of the financing of medical care at the Commonwealth, with an approach to sustainable and equitable health systems that benefit all member countries.
