Nigeria will revolutionize his panorama of cancer attention with the establishment of the largest network of oncology and diagnosis of Western Africa.
According to Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, Minister of Health and Social Welfare Coordinator, in its Handle X, @muhammadPate, this initiative marks the most ambitious investment in cancer attention ever made by a Nigerian administration.
“We are dismantling long -standing barriers, both on the sides of supply and demand, to ensure that quality and affordable cancer care becomes a national standard, not an exception,” said Professor Pate.
“This initiative is aligned with the renewed agenda of hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the aim of improving Nigeria's health system.”
“The initiative will train up to 500 doctors in the next three years to ensure perfect operations. It is projected that the centers serve approximately 2,000 oncological patients and 350,000 diagnostic clients annually.
“Three recently built cancer centers at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina; Teaching Hospital of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; and the University of Benin Hospital will be formally commissioned by President Tinubu and will open soon for public access.”
“To make cancer treatment more accessible and affordable, the National Health Insurance Authority has launched a directed shared cost program.”
“Patients with eligible disadvantage who undergo radiotherapy can receive subsidies of up to N400,000, significantly relieving financial burden for families and improving adherence to treatment.”
