Engineers have been urged to ascend to emerging engineering challenges and contribute their experience towards the development of their communities and the nation in general.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Company of Engineers of Nigeria (NSE), OFFA Branch, on Saturday in OFFA, state of Kwara, national president of the NSE, the engineer Margaret Aina Oguntala, emphasized the need to equip members with skills, certifications and global exposure to guarantee competitiveness in the global field.
He also requested stronger collaborations with academic institutions, industries and other professional organizations.
Represented by the vice president, the engineer Rachel Superumun Ugye, Oguntala, commissioned the recently inaugurated leadership of the NSE OFFA branch, directed by Abdulfata Yusuf, to adopt community engineering, describing it as one of the flagship initiatives of the company.
“It is a call for engineers to display their experience in resolving practical challenges in the bases. I charge them to take projects that deliver tangible impacts to communities such as clean water, renewable and sustainable energy, the development of infrastructure and rehabilitation as part of our objectives.”
He added: “Use your collective knowledge, networks and resources to lead the development where it matters most”, pointing out that the strength of the NSE “lies in its ability to influence engineering policies and development decisions.”
Oguntala encouraged the Offfa branch to build associations with local councils, the state government and the industries that operate in the area.
“These relationships must be structured to improve the relevance of engineering in policy formulation and project execution. Focus on Stem intensification. In addition, I encourage you to defend the growth of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education (Stem) within its area.
“Our future lies in the hands of young people and it is our mentor duty, support and inspire them. Associate with schools, non -governmental organizations (NGOs) and industries.
“This will ensure a continuous portfolio of innovative future engineers and capable of maintaining the development of our country.”
Also speaking at the event, the rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offer, Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, the member of the NSE, urged the pioneer president of the Offfa branch to communicate with inactive members and encourage his participation in the activities of NSE.
“Together, let's write the new chapter of Excellence in Engineering for the Branch of Nse Offa,” he said.
In his inaugural speech, the new president, the engineer Abdulfatai Yusuf, said the occasion was more than a ceremonial event.
“It is a milestone in the engineering growth trip, regional development and professional empowerment,” he said.
He said that his leadership would promote innovation, collaboration and service “not only for engineers, but for the entire OFFA community and their surroundings.”
He expressed his gratitude to the NSE National Executive Council to approve the establishment of the OFFA branch, and appreciated the support received from the Ilorin branch.

He praised the leadership of NSE and other interested parties, including founding members and colleagues, who worked tirelessly to realize the inauguration of the branch.
He listed his mission and vision to include the establishment of an appropriate engineering center in OFFA, a center for meetings, training and innovation, and the promotion of infrastructure development through active commitment to government and community leaders.
He also promised to defend renewable energy solutions that are sustainable, affordable and adaptable to local needs, as well as organizing regular technical sessions, workshops and general meetings to keep members equipped professionally and ethically founded.
